International students who are considering studying abroad may have to complete an English test as part of a university’s entry requirements. International students who are brought up bilingually or have a double nationality whereby the other passport is from an English speaking country might be eligible to not have to do the English test; however, most international students have to complete an English test.
There are a couple of institutions that offer English tests, such as the Pearson PTE English test, IELTS and TOEFL. Although they all provide the same product, they differ in terms of the service they offer. The most significant difference is that with the Pearson PTE English test, you can receive your scores online, whereas with IELTS and TOEFL, you receive your scores by post. Receiving your scores online can be considered to be quite an advantage as this means that you won’t have to worry about mail centres losing your scores or if you are planning to move house at the time when you are about to receive your test scores.
The second major advantage of the Pearson PTE English test is that you will receive your test scores within less than week.
All English test providers have similar approaches when it comes to testing your English abilities. You are required to complete an oral exam, a reading test, a writing test and a listening test. The English test providers are all widely recognized by universities and colleges, however it is always wise to double check when applying.
